Privacy Policy

BabyProof is built by LXGIC Studios. We take your privacy seriously — especially because our app deals with your home and your children. This policy explains what data we collect, how we use it, and what we don't do with it.

The short version: we don't sell your data and we don't share it with advertisers. Room images are sent to a third-party AI service for hazard analysis and are not stored afterward.

What Data We Collect

Camera and Room Scan Data

When you scan a room, BabyProof uses your device's camera to capture images for hazard detection. These images are sent to OpenAI's API, a third-party AI service, for analysis. OpenAI processes the images to identify potential hazards and returns the results to your device. According to OpenAI's API data usage policy, API inputs and outputs are not used to train their models and are not stored after processing is complete.

We do not store your room images on our own servers. Scan results (hazard types, counts, safety scores) are stored locally on your device and optionally synced to your account if you enable cloud backup. The images themselves are discarded once the analysis is complete.

Account Information

If you create an account, we collect your email address and any profile information you provide (like your child's age and name). We use this to personalize hazard detection and send you milestone reminders.

Usage Data

We collect basic analytics: which features you use, how often you scan, crash reports, and device type. This helps us improve the app. We use privacy-respecting analytics and don't track you across other apps or websites.

Payment Information

Payments are processed through Apple's App Store or Google Play. We don't see or store your credit card number, billing address, or payment details. Those stay with Apple and Google.

What We Don't Do

  • We don't sell your personal data. Not to advertisers. Not to data brokers. Not to anyone.
  • We don't store camera images on our servers. Images sent to OpenAI for analysis are not retained by either BabyProof or OpenAI after processing.
  • We don't use your data for targeted advertising.
  • We don't share your child's information with third parties.

Children's Privacy (COPPA Compliance)

BabyProof is a child safety app, and we hold ourselves to a higher standard. We comply with the Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and equivalent regulations.

  • We don't collect personal information from children under 13.
  • Child profile data (name, age) is provided by the parent and stored only on-device or in the parent's account.
  • Parents can delete all child data at any time through the app settings.
  • We don't display behavioral advertising to children or based on children's data.

Data Retention

Your scan results and room profiles are stored on your device. If you enable cloud sync, we keep that data as long as you have an active account.

If you delete your account, we delete all associated data from our servers within 30 days. Local data on your device stays until you uninstall the app or manually delete it.

We retain anonymized, aggregated analytics data (things like "40% of users scan the kitchen first") for product improvement. This data can't be traced back to you.

Data Security

We use industry-standard encryption for data in transit (TLS 1.3) and at rest (AES-256). Account data is stored in secure, SOC 2-compliant infrastructure. But no system is 100% secure, and we can't guarantee absolute security. We'll notify you promptly if a breach affects your data.

Third-Party Services

We use a small number of third-party services:

  • OpenAI (Hazard Detection): Room images are sent to OpenAI's Vision API for AI-powered hazard analysis. OpenAI processes the image and returns hazard results. Per their API policy, inputs are not used for model training and are not stored after processing. See OpenAI's API data usage policy for details.
  • Analytics: Privacy-respecting analytics for app improvement (no cross-site tracking)
  • Cloud sync: Encrypted backup of scan results if you opt in
  • Affiliate links: Product recommendation links may include affiliate tracking. This doesn't share your personal data with retailers.

Your Rights

You can:

  • Access all data we have about you
  • Export your scan history and room profiles
  • Delete your account and all associated data
  • Opt out of analytics collection
  • Disable cloud sync and keep everything local

These rights apply regardless of where you live. We don't make you jump through hoops to exercise them.

Changes to This Policy

If we make meaningful changes to this privacy policy, we'll notify you through the app and by email at least 30 days before the changes take effect. We won't quietly reduce your privacy protections.
